Consultants Review - Read on...

For years you have used the same consultants, consultants who have provided all your consulting services and that’s the ways it always been.  These consultants are typically one of the “big boys” and are more concerned with margins, billable hours and variations then providing customer service, quality deliverables or listening to their clients specific needs.

When it comes to consultants in the waste sector, it is important to know that you as the client have countless options, which if explored further can often provide services that:

  • Meet your requirements - not just providing an item off a shelf, “cut and paste”
  • Can often be more competitive or provide more bang for your buck
  • Look beyond the ‘billable hour’ with consultants that are flexible and adaptive to project changes
  • Use experienced staff rather graduates when they say they will use experienced staff

This message is a message that we have heard loud and clear whilst working at the “big boys” consultancies in the past and an area in which Iolar Consulting Services is committed to providing a point of difference to our competitors. This sentiment is echoed in the February 2016 Inside Waste Magazine Consultants Review with a number of clients bearing their grievances with some consultants.

“Overall value for money is medium to poor and the number of reports we have to rewrite because they were not fit for printing is depressing”

“Many consultants are more interested in the billable hour rather than delivering good customer service. This is frustrating and very short sighted.”

“The value they deliver is less than promised and the work is often handed to more junior staff, which is then not adequately reviewed.”

“Value and price are different metrics; we’d much rather pay more for good advice then spend less on useless inputs that end up costing time and money.”
(Inside Waste Magazine Feb 2016 Pg44)

Shopping around for consultants or casting a wider net in the quotation/tender process can often lead to more competitive pricing and innovative project solutions tailored to your specific needs.

A client of Iolar recently advised us that they ‘ummmed’ and ‘arrrred’ about changing consultants from one of the “big boys”, however, has done so and is now receiving solutions tailored to their site while saving between 25-40% on charge out rates.

Working with our clients, assessing their specific requirements and providing services at lower rates than larger consulting companies our clients have saved considerable amounts on consulting fees, been able to afford bringing forward the timing on a number of future projects and has increased their business position ahead of their future projections.

So next time you need a consultant, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Am I happy with the services I get from my existing consultants?
  • Are they going to use junior staff to carry out the work costed at more experienced staff rates?
  • Am I getting what I asked for and is the value of deliverable justified?
