Iolar have recently renovated and moved into new office premises located in Brisbane’s east side where Iolar applied the principles of the waste management hierarchy during the renovation and office fit out process. The office was previously used as a retail store front and offices prior to Iolar moving into the premises.
We renovated the office to make the space more usable and true to this nature Iolar decided to reduce, reuse, and recycle during the renovations where possible.
In short, the renovation involved the following;
Reduce
Where possible Iolar reduced the quantity of waste generated from the renovation with a large amount of materials reused or recycled where possible. Iolar also reduced its footprint on landfill by obtaining some building materials from recycle markets, second hand building material stores and direct purchase.
Reuse
During the renovation we needed to remove some walls and created new ones, so the timber framing, doors, door trims and skirting from the old walls were reused to create the new walls, doors, trims and skirting.
Our office boardroom is themed and gives the impression that the boardroom is outside on a veranda with the roof lining made from tin or corrugated iron that was sourced from a recycle market. The boardroom windows were sourced from a second hand building material store and the doors were sourced through an online second hand materials site, therefore reducing materials going to landfill.
Office furniture including desks, filing cabinets, and printers were all soured from a second hand office furniture warehouse.
The lighting in the board room and entrance was sourced from old street lights destined for landfill with these refurbished and now sit as a feature of these areas.
Wood sourced from recycle markets has been used in feature walls in the office hallways and timber tops on the half walls in the office area were sourced from a neighboring property during a demolition.
Recycle
Iolar have also implemented an office recycling program to ensure all staff are aware of recycling procedures, bin locations and materials that can/can’t recycled.
